The organization Alfa Human Service is launching a new edition of the “Cornflower for Carers” campaign, which traditionally honors those who care for their loved ones. This year, the campaign starts on May 15, 2025, and will run until September 1, 2025. During this period, the public is invited to send in photos of cornflowers as a symbolic thank-you to all carers — both those we know and those who remain nameless, yet selflessly help their loved ones every single day.
This year’s theme is “Cornflowers Across Europe,” aiming to emphasize that caregiving is not just a Czech reality — carers can be found all across Europe, often in the background, underappreciated and lacking systemic support. Just as cornflowers bloom across the continent, carers are united by their selflessness and strength.
From the submitted photos, Alfa Human Service will create a collage that will be virtually sent to carers on October 2, 2025 — on the occasion of Carers’ Day — as a symbol of recognition and solidarity.
This year’s campaign will also include a map of Europe highlighting the countries and organizations participating in the initiative. Alfa Human Service will reach out to partner organizations within the EUROCARERS network, aiming to create a European mosaic of support and connection among carers across borders.
Informal care refers to care provided by close family or friends — often without financial compensation or professional training. These individuals care for their loved ones 24 hours a day, 7 days a week — whether they are seniors, people with disabilities, or those with chronic illnesses. Their work is invisible but irreplaceable. Without informal carers, the healthcare and social systems could not function as they currently do. That’s why it is essential that their efforts are recognized, supported, and appreciated — and the “Cornflower for Carers” campaign provides the space for exactly that.
“We want to show that carers deserve recognition everywhere — not just here. The cornflowers people send us will be joined into a European image of care, solidarity, and gratitude,” says Veronika Kocourová, occupational therapist at Alfa Human Service, z.s.
